“The thing about denial is that it doesn’t feel like denial when it’s going on.” –Georgina Kleege
We are not good judges of ourselves. That is true in life. That is especially true in recovery. As addicts, we are experts in denial with others as well as with ourselves (typically experienced as justification). Many addicts will say, “I don’t feel like I’m in denial.” And they are right. Just not about the denial part. We need others to help us recognize our denial because it never feels like denial when it’s going on.
In the past, when was I in denial about my denial? Did I listen to others when they pointed out my denial? What gifts await me as I open myself to the feedback of others regarding my patterns of denial?
