“Life will knock you down. Ok, it will kick you in the gut and knock you to the curb. But you can’t let it rob you of your ‘ness’.” -You, Me, and Dupree
There is a significant difference between “allowing yourself to be known” and “becoming who someone else wants you to be.” Addicts put lots of energy into showing a self they think others will be attracted to. This is often a defense against their perceived pain of impending judgment and rejection. Recovery asks you to be vulnerable and allow your true self to be known.
What persona have I shown others? Do I know who I am underneath my persona? What gifts await me if I discover, embrace, and allow others to see my true self?
