Quit spending your time trying to NOT fail and start trying to succeed.

My son’s doctor shared a story about a college professor who had a significant impact on him.  Until having this professor, my son’s doctor had focused on just getting by in school.  This professor, out of frustration when another ‘adequate’ paper was turned in, said “Would you please quit spending your time trying to NOT fail and start trying to succeed!”  According to my son’s doctor, this was the turning point in his life when all the realities that he is now experiencing became possible.

Do I work at avoiding failure?  What would trying to succeed look like?  What possibilities await me if I start trying to succeed?
