Thought for the Week

You must take each step of your path.

“If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it’s not your path.  Your own path you make with every step you take.  That’s why it is your path.” –Joseph Campbell

In recovery, we often talk about the path of recovery and the proven steps to find sobriety and recovery.  This path and these steps are only a guide, however.  You must walk your own path.  The markers of those who have gone before you are there and you can choose to follow their footsteps as a guide, but you create your own path by walking it.  You must take each step.  No one else can do that for you.

When have I turned responsibility for my path over to others?  Has my experience or the outcome been different when I took responsibility for choosing my path?  What gifts await me as I consider and own each step I take?
