What does not satisfy when we find it, was not the thing that we were desiring. -C.S. Lewis
We hold many beliefs about what will make our lives better. Some of these beliefs are conscious and some are unconscious. Many of them take on a compulsive energy and become addictive behaviors. But what happens when we get the “thing” we are seeking, whether it is money, a car, social status, food, drugs, or sex? Are we satisfied? Under these surface desires are often deeper, emotional desires such as love, acceptance, and worth. When we address and satisfy the deeper desire we finally experience satisfaction.
What have I desired in my life that did not ultimately create satisfaction? What deeper desire have I missed?
