“Pearls don’t lie on the seashore. If you want one, you must dive for it.” –Chinese Proverb
Nothing of significant value comes without effort. Sobriety, like diving for a pearl, comes with planning and effort. Finding and holding onto a pearl does not happen by playing in the water. It happens by being aware of what you want, having an idea of where to find it (and this information is often provided by others), learning to dive significant depths, and then being prepared when you dive to bring your treasure to the surface. These same steps can be applied to sobriety.
When have I waited for sobriety to come to me? Have I taken steps to “find” sobriety? What gifts await me as I embrace the planning and effort required to create sobriety?
