I can’t. You can. Please do.
Stubborn independence can be problematic, especially in recovery. We cannot do everything ourselves. We often need help. Sometimes, a situation is completely out of our hands. Trying to force a solution that is out of our influence is counterproductive. This might be eliminating addictive thoughts, directing another’s healing process, or changing someone’s heart. In these moments accepting our limitations, asking for help, and trusting our higher power is our recovery in action.
When has a solution been out of my control? What has happened when I have tried to force a solution? What gifts await me as I say to my higher power “I can’t. You can. Please do.”?
