The mental flotsam does not matter. What does matter is what parts of that mental flotsam we choose to pay attention to.
Our thoughts are reflexive. We do not have control over which thoughts pop into our head. We do have control over what we do with those thoughts. What makes a difference in our lives is not which thoughts enter our heads but which thoughts we hold onto and which thoughts we let float away.
What thoughts am I paying attention to? Are these thoughts bringing serenity or chaos into my life?
