“There are two ways of spreading light… To be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” -Neal Houston, Ph.D.
When there is difficulty around us, we can be helpful by providing perspective and guidance. Sometimes, however, we are in the midst of our own struggles or are not far enough along on our own journey to provide effective guidance. In these times, when we cannot create “light” we can reflect it from those around us: our sponsors, others in our recovery community, our therapists, our families or friends. Sometimes being a mirror to reflect light is enough.
When have I been too overwhelmed to provide perspective or guidance to those in need? What would reflecting the perspective and guidance of others look like? What gifts await me and those around me if I am willing to be a mirror and reflect the light of others?
