“I have met so many people who, at the first opportunity, try to show their very worst qualities. They hide their inner strength behind aggression and hide their fear of loneliness behind an air of independence. They do not believe in their own abilities, but are constantly trumpeting their virtues.” –Paula Coelho
We hide our insecurities in a variety of ways. Ironically, many of these insecurities point to our best qualities while many of our defenses highlight our worst qualities. Sensitivity is sometimes hidden with anger. Concern is sometimes hidden behind manipulation or control. And love is sometimes hidden behind lust. In recovery, we work on security; we become comfortable with ourselves. From a place of security, we trust our higher power and embrace the support of our community, allowing our best qualities to be displayed.
What are my worst qualities? What wonderful qualities are my worst ones hiding? What gifts await me as I work to share my best qualities?
