You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need
-Mick Jagger & Keith Richards

There is a big difference between what we want and what we need.  It has been my experience that I frequently do not get what I want.  However, like the Rolling Stones have been telling us for decades, we can and often do get what we need.  We do not always like (in the moment) what we need; looking back (with the temperance of time) we often appreciate and recognize the importance of what we received.

What do I want in life that I am not getting?  Is life giving me something that I need instead?  How might what I am receiving be helpful to me as I later look back on this time of my life?
